PREVIEW
With Spain massive odds-on favourites for Euro 2012 qualification from Group I at 1.14 on the ‘Daq’ – and Czech Republic for company too – it looks like being a daunting task ahead for Scotland to reach the finals in Poland & Ukraine.
To get things going, the Scots head to Lithuania for a tie which certainly won’t prove straightforward. According to FIFA’s latest rankings, there’s not a huge difference between the sides, with Scotland ranked 41st and the Lithuanians 52nd.
The Tartan Army will know that their side has the upperhand in previous contests, but they will be wary ahead of the trip to Kaunas, with the teams getting to know each other well. Incredibly, they have been pooled together in the qualifiers for each of the last three European Championships.
Scotland have won the previous three games against Lithuania, and four of the six in total, however, the games tend to be close.
Craig Levein’s phone hasn’t stopped ringing, with his injured players dropping like flies, and he has been forced to hand an emergency recall to David Weir. There isn’t a lot to choose between the sides betting-wise with Levein’s men slim favourites at 2.74, with their hosts available at around 2.87 on Betdaq.
I fancy this one could be very low scoring so it might be worth backing under 1.5 goals at around 2.78 on the ‘Daq’ which would allow either side to nick it 1-0.
RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
Back under 1.5 goals at around 2.78: 3 points
