IRELAND'S EYE
BETDAQ are the main sponsors on the all weather today at Wolverhampton but it is two tracks better known for the all weather game that we will be concentrating on as Southwell and Lingfield stage two decent jumps cards to start off the week. All our selections today boast past point to point form in either England or Ireland and indeed it could be a 1-2 for the point brigade in a keenly contested novice chase at Lingfield.
Another excellent day yesterday and once again we bagged a big priced winner in one of the top contests in Ireland when Citizen Vic (14-12/1) landed the P J Moriarty chase under Paul Townend with our saver Roberto Goldback (3-5/2) back in third at Leopardstown. We followed up later in the evening when our saver Kilty Storm (8/1) landed the hunter chase on that card if fine style with our nap Agus A Vic (4/5-4/6) well held back in third. Indeed we were just denied a long priced hat trick as My Skipper (6-5/1) just failed to get up in a long distance hc hurdle at Fontwell and Cooldine (4-5/2) was just denied in the feature event the Hennessy Gold Cup at the Foxrock venue but Door Boy (5/2) was well beaten in third at Musselburgh.
Andy Turnell has his string in good form at present and his dual point winner The Rainbow Hunter can land the 2m 3 1/2f novice hurdle at Lingfield at 2-20 despite the fact that he is the only penalised runner in the line up. The lightly raced 6yo made a highly satisfactory start to his Park and hurdle career when finishing a fine third to the useful Pepe Simo at Wincanton and followed up with a good fourth to subsequent scorer Inventor at Ascot. Those efforts were on good ground and the son of Rainbow High duly stepped up under his regular 7lb claimer on his first handicap when scoring in emphatic style on heavy ground on a return to Wincanton over the minimum trip. Now off a mark of 121 the Turnell runner should be suited by the step up in trip and testing ground here and he showed last time that he can settle better and he can prove too strong for main market rival Sarando and Venetia Williams Samurai Way who would have decent claims on his second to a subsequent scorer in Stoney’s Treasure over course and distance on his hurdle debut some two and a half months ago.
Former point winner Our Hero has been lightly raced since joining the Longsdon yard but the 7yo has landed a hurdle and chase for the yard in the earlier and later part of last year on soft and heavy. Though the Oscar Schindler gelding could only manage to finish a modest fourth in his first handicap at Doncaster 10 days ago over 3m where he seemed not to get home the demands of the 3m 1/2f hc chase at Southwell this afternoon at 2-40 could prove more beneficial and this easier circuit could see the Richie McGrath ridden gelding record his third career victory. Top weight Oscar Park was a useful dual bumper and three time hurdle scorer and the 11yo could prove dangerous off this mark and the Arbuthnot trained veteran could bounce back to something like his old form and spring a minor surprise and record his third chase win here under Daryl Jacob.
An excellent novice chase with 4 of the 6 protagonists holding winning chances but we will take two against the field in this 2m 4 1/2f novice event at Lingfield at 2-50. Former maiden pointer and dual hurdle winner Chariots Charger has finished runner up to tow decent sorts in Bensalem (beaten less than a length) and latterly The Nightingale in his three attempts over fences to date and the Emma Lavelle trained 6yo can open his account here under Jack Doyle over a trip/ground which should suit the Oscar gelding. He will be suited by more hold up tactics which were discarded last time when he was well beaten by the promising Nicholls runner at Fontwell and getting all the allowances here he can beat another former Irish pointer in Great Endeavour from the Pipe yard who has landed three hurdles hurdles and made a successful chase start when justifying shortish odds at Towcester over 2m 6f. Though he did disappoint when fading in a strong novice at Fontwell subsequently he could be suited by a stiffer test here while Nomecheki hold claims also despite his double penalty while Alan Kings Bakbenscher will also be popular but the 7yo will have to brush up his fencing if his last run si taken as the benchmark.
Burton Port has done us a couple of favours in the past and though the Nicky Henderson trained 6yo will go off at short odds to land the 3m 1/2f novice chase at Southwell he should be capable of landing his third chase. Nicky Hendersons charge has twice accounted for Massasoit when landing Bangor and Lingfield novice events and that form was boosted by the runner up on Saturday and though the Bob Back gelding has to give 4lbs and more to his opponents here following his success in a Grade 2 chase over 3m last time he looks ideally suited by this trip/ground and he may be capable of giving 4lbs to the former Irish trained The Sliotar who opened his account when narrowly accounting for one of todays rivals Blazing Bailey at Ffos Las over 3m on his second chase start three weeks ago.
4-50 LINGFIELD – 2m bumper
Toomebridge point winner HALL KELLY struck at the second time of asking despite running keenly and though the Evan Williams trained 5yo is bred to get much further the Saddlers’ Hall gelding may get a strongly run race here on the polytrack and he is worth a small wager in what looks on paper an ordinary contest.

We are now recording the daily profit and loss of Ireland's Eye to help readers gauge the current form of the service. We will provide the profit / loss on the previous day to a £1 level stake on each selection (eg: a 5 point bet = a £5 stake). In the interests of consistency the profit / loss will be recorded at SP prices, however BETDAQ users can reasonably expect to beat SP in the majority of races.
Wednesday's Return was: LOSS 14.68 points
