DAQMAN on Tuesday

Tuesday 2 February DAQMAN  15-2 WINNER: Daqman spotted Hacienda (won 15-2), a first-time-out seven-lengths winner for Mark Johnston at Wolverhampton yesterday. BETDAQ-SPONSORED RACES AT SOUTHWELL: Today Daqman takes you through Betdaq-sponsored races on the card at Southwell and, at Taunton, the only survivor of the intended jumps meetings, finds an ‘amazing’ offer on the Daq. The pro punters will be at Taunton today, playing the percentages with Paul Nicholls’ runners. He won four on the card last year and has six contenders today, with Ruby Walsh doing the steering on a nap hand. High-in-the-handicap Oracle Des Mottes (4.10) is the easiest of his to back, but the forecast favourite in that one, Buck Mulligan, has drifted like a mutt on a raft: no one wants to know. ’Buck’ almost blundered away his Ludlow win and backers prefer Babe Heffron, presumably on the strength of his November second to Tataniano’s recent conqueror, Suntini. An amazing 14.0 on Betdaq this morning, Pass Me A Dime could join in the Tizzard revival and, though Montgermont would require a bigger bounce back, he may show something of his old self after a wind op. Mister Wiseman is a winner in this grade, and Nudge And Nurdle is easily forgiven his defeat over the big Aintree fences last time out, with conditions spot on for him here. There could be plenty of pace on in the novices’ staying hurdle (3.40) and the chaser, Cappa Bleu, may struggle to keep up; they’re claiming off little Quentin Collonges but the grey has really come into his own after a wind op and 9.6 this morning looks tasty each way. Valentine Vic, the Nicholls’ runner, is a CD winner and must be one of your bets. Voramar Two, now stepping up half a mile into territory he should like, is in with a chance, though said to want better ground. 1.30 Southwell (Betdaq On 0870 178 1221): Global Strategy might have won this in 2007, when Lady Pilot was also setting up a sequence on this course. Of the pair, hers was the best recent run, third over further at Lingfield 11 days ago: she has top weight today but is unbeaten over CD, has won off today’s mark and has Josh Moore as co-pilot. The Easterby surge seems to be over and Bright Sparky goes best when fresh. Like Mountain Forest and Free Falling (behind Merrion Tiger here last month), Mymateeric remains a maiden on the Flat, though he won over hurdles in November, and both Nawow and Front Rank are surely past it, at the age of 10. Merrion Tiger’s defeat by Dart was no disgrace and he has won here off a higher mark but, since his recent success was in an apprentice race, Aaman, from a yard in form, gets away without a penalty, even though he won by 16 lengths. On the face of it, that makes Aaman a ‘cert’: the grey may well have improved above this lot but collateral form suggests otherwise and, in any case, I won’t be going overboard about a boys’-race winner, nor will I expect an animal at this level to put back-to-back wins together. Not at the prices available. The runner-up to Aaman that day had been beaten between nine and 19 lengths in all previous races, and strictly on the book, the third horse, They All Laughed, fourth when Merrion Tiger was second to Dart, makes ‘Tiger’ a 6lb better horse than Aaman. At 1.43 this morning, an Aaman lay would cost me very little, win or lose, and I staked four points, splitting my potential earnings between Lady Pilot at 9.0 the win and Merrion Tiger at 12.5 for a double whammy. It was 31.0 bar three. 2.00 Southwell (Bet CIS Football – Betdaq Seller): Grand local horseman Jeremy Glover seems back to form, and his Oasis Dream gelding, Dream In Blue, drops back to selling company, despite consistency at handicap level, though it should be a close-run thing now, with the second and third in his last plate win here, Jazrawy and My Mate Mal, now both better off at the weights. Only Black Falcon, of the remainder, has won over this distance. But he beat Inside Story only a neck recently and that one now has a 5lb pull. Jazwary was a long way adrift that day, suggesting that Inside Story is the form horse. That could all be misleading but, at 9.0 on the Daq as I write, I’ve got a price with some built-in risk. 2.30 Southwell (Try Betdaq For An Exchange Handicap): Freddie Tylicki came back to the saddle with two thirds from two rides last week and he should be able to show his skills here with a decent draw for front-runner Young Gladiator. I’m standing firmly on the Spartacus gelding’s side of the line at the 7.0 on Betdaq this morning. If there’s nothing like that left, it’s because my hungry mouse got quite gluttonous, mopping up the offers. I’m Spartacus! The favourite, Not My Choice, should go the pace with him but he’s a short-runner who wins only at Chester. As you’d expect, railing Southwell has appealed to him but he’s never been too keen to get his head in front and has gone 19 races without success. Kings Sabre has very similar form: second last time out and on a long losing run. Quiet Mountain and Dream Win are worries, so lightly raced. The one of the pair for money this morning is Quiet Mountain but he’s already tried different tactics – held up penultimate start but in the van last time out – so they might already be getting to the bottom of him with not much to show for it. Where’s Reilly steps up from a seller and his rider has a poor course record but Westwood is interesting, back to Southwell for the first time since two close seconds on the course in 2008. Zeffirelli won here three weeks ago but the track was riding slow that day and you have to ask whether he can hold his form.
