Tuesday 9 February DAQMAN  WINNING THE BETDAQ WAY:  Daqman utilises different Betdaq facilities today to try to trap a profit at Market Rasen, Southwell and Sedgefield: win, win and place, back and lay, and multiple bets. BETDAQ SPONSORED RACES: He finds value offers at 32.0 and 46.0, concentrating his analysis on the three Betdaq-sponsored races at the AW meeting. Mocho looks mucho value in the 3.30 at Market Rasen today. The 3.2 a McCoy favourite on Betdaq this morning was so good I started to worry but I’ll just say thankyou to Carrickmines for making me a price. Carrickmines has been placed three times in a row, since being raised 13lb above his last winning mark; they’re claiming off him again but the same amateur was on board for two of those defeats. Donald Will Do is a ‘bridesmaid’, often on the premises but never the one with the bouquet, also placed three times in a row. And just look at the rest of the field! The stables of numbers 2, 4, 6 and 8 have gone a total of 633 days without a win, and the yard connected with Hermano Cordobes has had just one runner placed under Rules in the last five years. That leaves Feeling Peckish, who remains a maiden after 61 starts. Brian Ellison’s yard is in good form and there’s a nod and a wink for Pendragon (2.10), proverbially ‘thrown in’ at Sedgefield: 5.2 on Betdaq this morning doesn’t leave much room for doubt but he is getting 26lb from the favourite and the next two in the market, Solway Ally and Samizdat, have now had 25 chances between them without troubling the judge. It’s t’other way round for the same stable’s Tilt (2.40), conceding up to a stone, but already holding a verdict over one of his market rivals, Saveiro. Benny Be Good may well be suited by this step up in trip. But I’m told not to give up on Saddlers Deal, who has seen the backside of both Tilt and Benny be Good. He was favourite for Benny Be Good’s bumper in November but, though any price you liked behind Tilt over hurdles (nearly 26 furlongs at Catterick recently), led until rapping a flight and being eased. He’s 32.0 here and connections probably have his handicap mark in mind after this run, but you can afford to tilt at windmills at those odds. The top-weights will be up against it in the mud in the stayers’ hurdle (3.40), the sort of situation reveled in by horses under the care of Nigel Twiston-Davies (Power Pack Jack) and by sons and daughters of the dour mare Dalkey Sound (Do It For Dalkey). 2.20 Southwell (Bet Premier League Football – Betdaq Handicap):  Three favourites have won this out of four runnings of the race and Billie Jean, back over the CD of her success in December, will be hard to stop, meeting the well-beaten runner-up, Turf Time, on the same terms. Turf Time holds Pavement Games and Annia Galeria, though Lady Brickhouse can just about beat him on some form. Turf Times’ stable has another runner, Sandy Toes, getting 18lb from the top-weight but the pair finished well apart when they met over a furlong shorter at Wolverhampton. It all points to Billie Jean. 2.50 Southwell (Betdaq On 0870 178 1221 Selling Stakes):  Just 0.75 points separate three of the five runners in the Betdaq market this morning and Music Box Express is just a point behind them. In the race itself, Music Box Express will be ahead of them most of the way, on past performance as a front-runner, but he’s on a long losing run, as is his rider Matthew Davies (one win in here in this type of race from 26 starts). The snag with a back-and-lay is that ‘Music Box’ is likely to be joined in front by Fasilyanne, so it could be quite a twitchy race for the hungry mouse. A record to match Matthew Davies’s is that of Ron Harris, trainer of Spic ‘N’ Span, who has had 17 runners without a win in the last fortnight. He’s missing strike badly: eight placed but no winners. Like Spic ‘N Span, Monte Major has had his success over 5f - he hasn’t won beyond the minimum since 2004 – and Guto has never lasted this far. Take a card: don’t tell me what it is; put it back in the pack and forget about it (sorry, that’s the end of the trick).. 3.20 Southwell (Back and Lay At Betdaq Maiden Stakes): When a horse is dropped in class – ‘thrown down the wishing well’ – there are two distinct possibilities: it’s a swan that’s turned out to be a goose or it is going for an ‘easy’ to give it confidence after a setback. But Loveinthesand is already a beaten favourite twice and has already tried three ways of running in three different races, including the familiar Johnston ‘ lead and drive’ style. When ‘driven’ he faded out of it but that was the class-2 race which prompts the pundits to speculate on his plummeting to class-5 today. However, his earlier efforts were both failures as favourite in class-4, albeit on turf not AW. The chances are he’s going to be threatened if he tries the ‘lead and drive’ approach today, since Wings Of Kintyre – dropped back from 7f and 1m – has led in both his races and only weakened final furlong last time out, though totally unfancied at 100-1. Mark Johnston is sending out winners at a near-50% strike rate (wow!) and he’ll probably win it by default but the eponymous back-and-lay for this race at 46.0 at the time of writing is Wings Of Kintyre, if he has the legs to trap quickly, down to this distance.
