Monday 1 February DAQMAN  THREE LAYS IN A ROW: Daqman followed up a lays double on Saturday - Doctor Pat (unplaced 5-2) and Madison Du Berlais (unplaced 3-1) – by getting another paper favourite beaten out of the frame yesterday, Aeroplane (last of five at 3-1). His record is 16 consecutive lays up.   BETDAQ-SPONSORED RACES AT WOLVERHAMPTON: Today Daqman takes you through Betdaq-sponsored races on the only surviving card at Wolverhampton, where there’s racing after a morning inspection. 2.05 Wolverhampton: At opposite ends of the market, Tamino (5.7 on Betdaq as I write) and Affirmatively (35.0) are interesting. Tamino’s jockey has ridden most winners of these amateurs and the stable is on a high; the Mozart gelding is quirky but then you can’t trust anything at this level. Affirmatively is the only runner of the day for a yard doing well and first-time visor on a freshened-up animal should produce a run from a very low weight mark. Towy Boy doesn’t want to put his head in front, but the rider with the reins today has a three-from-eight strike rate on AW so he won’t fail for lack of the aids. Miss Firefly likes the course and Commander Wish’s stable shows a huge profit from her older runners here. Cocktail Party and Metropolitan Chief are from yards on the cold list. 2.40 Wolverhampton: With the stable three out of six in the last fortnight, and a leading amateur on board, Nabeeda ought to figure in this, though he hasn’t much ‘finish’ in him and is not well drawn. Pipers Piping, from the Tamino yard, races off a fair mark now. Meikle Barfil steps up a furlong but her first run over 6f (CD) for her new stable saw Albero De Giuda in a better light. Boundless Applause is probably the best outsider (23.0 on Betdaq), off a featherweight and with that three-out-of-eight man, Martin, in the saddle. 3.15 Wolverhampton: The favourites have flip-flopped but Sakile, now in pole position, is a front-runner stepping up a furlong on her Lingfield maiden win. Magenta Strait has won two out of three on the course, and scored over CD in December from a hold-up position, so Sakile’s pace should suit. Flow Chart is pressing Sakile in the ratings but all the assessment for him – and for Exearti - comes from success on slow going at Southwell. Anjomarba also has to translate Southwell form to Wolver and, with these uncertainties, Magenta Strait’s course form again appeals. 3.50 Wolverhampton (Back & Lay At Betdaq Handicap): Tuscan King (first-time tongue-strap) is the only AW winner in this field, and the only course winner, albeit in claimers; he sometimes leads. Lily Lily is expected to go off like the proverbial bat bat out of hell hell, but her best form is on fibresand and she’s already showing alarming pace by drifting in the betting like a dog on a raft (out to 9.4, as I write). So maybe The Great Husk is the back-and-lay action at 6.2: he also likes to lead, though seems determined not to win (3322 form-figures). The snag with Riviera Chic is that, though the yard is in form (two winners from the last three runners), and it’s Jim Crowley’s only ride, Ralph Beckett reached for the blinkers for this one last time; it didn’t produce the winning run, and she might not respond to them the same way again. Market Puzzle is seen as the rag here (37.0) but the entire race is a puzzle, with the potential front-runners and the penchant for placing without winning, so I’ll take first-time-in-a-handicap Claddagh, and assume that Mark Johnston has done his homework and got him in off a winning mark. 4.20 Wolverhampton: Tom Dascombe seems to mean business, visoring Que Belle (holds Your Lad) to try to get her home in this seller. Betdaq backers are unimpressed and layers’ offers of 14.5 are not being accepted, as I write. Tiger Hawk is clear in the ratings and 6.6 each way looked attractive, since he’s going for a hat-trick in plating company, though the two wins so far were at Southwell and he faded when trying to make all here in November, his second successive defeat on today’s track (Always De One and Scintillating behind). The stables of Brenda Duke and Creevy are out of form, so it has to be Tiger Hawk by default. 4.50 Wolverhampton (Bet CIS Football – Betdaq Handicap): Carmenero was never going to be the 3-1 Racing Post forecast; with his habit of getting behind, you might even get bigger than the 7.2 on offer as I write. Smalljohn, well drawn to get a flying start, is your first bet; a solid back-and-lay, since he’s sure to trade shorter in running. Pride Of Nation, alongside him, is from last year’s winning stable with the punters favourite Wolver rider, Graham Gibbons, on board but he seems to be a flatterer these days at the age of eight. Kersivay finished well in front of Smalljohn over CD in October and was hampered a grade higher on his next run, but he’s tried a drop down in trip since then; same result, as he seemingly lacks the pace or the resolution to get his head in front. However, he’s beaten Smalljohn, who in turn has beaten Carmenero and Just Jimmy, so Kersivay has been made favourite over Straight Face at the time of writing; that one is consistent but its cost him a rise in the weights. 5.20 Wolverhampton: Top yards are in action here and the one they want this morning is Dane O’Neill’s only mount of the day, Mnasikia, for Luca Cumani. Mnasikia has taken over at the front of the market from Penrod Ballanytyne for the Brian Meehan yard but be warned that Mark Johnston has won this in two of the last three years (three times altogether this century from four runners, in fact), including with a newcomer like Hacienda. 5.50 Wolverhampton (Betdaq The Betting Exchange Fillies’ Handicap): You know that dog on a raft? It’s heading for the weir this time: Look Officer is so not wanted that the 5-2 forecast favourite for Tom Dascombe is the outsider of the field as I write, at 9.2.
