IRELAND'S EYE
Nap Vforvictory (9/4-2/1) did the business in style for us yesterday while our next best Queen Poline (6/5-11/10) was just outgunned in the opener at Leicester. In our back up service our next best French Ties (7/1) finally made the breakthrough at the first try over hurdles for the Jennie Candish yard.
Navan provides the Irish action this afternoon while Musselburgh and Huntingdon also stage interesting and informative cards and once again BETDAQ are the main sponsors on the all weather at Lingfield. Two former pointers can fight out the finish of the opener at Navan today with the vote going to the outsider of the duo while we will also be taking on the ‘jolly’ in the following hurdle.
Racing opens at Musselburgh today with a divide of a 2m novice hurdle and though the in form Donald McCain trained Inventor looks set to go off favourite on the strength of his Ascot debut success on hurdles debut two months ago. However he did not really progress on that effort when beaten some way in admittedly a stronger novice at Kempton a month ago when finishing a modest fourth having not jumped with the same fluency and he could struggle to give 18lbs to the 4yo Pokfulham here. The last named only scored once on the flat but there was plenty of merit in his closing third in a Doncaster 2m 1f novice on his hurdle debut almost 7 weeks ago and with the Goldie yard now hitting form the James Reveley ridden gelding can upset the favourite here and the main threat may come from the useful ex flat racer Ladies Best who has shown staedy improvement in his two hurdle starts to date for the Ellison yard.
Pauline Gavins Ad Idem ran out a good winner of a competitive Belharbour maiden (subsequent useful dual winner Sonowyouno back in third) on his debut less than a year ago. The damands of the opening 2m 4f maiden hurdle at Navan at 1-15 should suit the son of Kayf Tara ideally and the Andrew McNamara ridden gelding who ran a fine race when just losing out to the more battle hardened Tofino Bay in the Gigginstown sponsored bumper at Fairyhouse over 2 months later where he had todays main opponent and favourite Mr Cracker (rec 10lbs) back in fifth berth. Though the 6yo could only finish fourth on his hurdling bow behind the useful Ballymak he had Saturdays big handicap hurdle victor Puyol just 16L in front and any improvement on that form would make him hard to beat here. Though the Michael Hourigan trained Mr Cracker was equally if not more impressive ‘between the flags’ - looked certain winner till toppling behind subsequent dual hurdle winner Arabella Boy at Lemonfield before winning by wide margin at Cloyne – he has taken some time to show his best under Rules but his most recent efforts have looked more encouraging and his recent run which saw him just outgunned by last years Galway Plate winner Ballyholland over 2m at Naas over a week ago makes him the main danger here. However the selection may have the most scope for improvement over this trip and hold Mr Cracker on past form – albeit in a bumper.
Prince Of Tara looks set to go off favourite to take the 2m hurdle at Navan today at 1-45 on the evidence of his good all the way success over the well supported Grey Soldier (ran well to take 2nd in opener at Leopardstown on Sunday) at Leopardstown a month ago on his second hurdle start. The easy point winner should again prove hard to beat here under David Casey for the in form Swan yard but there could be merit in giving a narrow vote to the Dessie Hughes trained ex point winner Magnanimity who shaped well in defeat in a couple of bumpers before opening his account over course and distance two months ago. Though the 6yo failed to give 9lbs to the useful Rubi Light over 3f further on last run at Limerick the last named was far from disgraced when running a good runner up to the 140 rated Mourad at Punchestown subsequently. The Davy Russell ridden gelding may be capable of giving 2lbs to Prince Of Fire here in what looks an interesting affair.
Former course flat winner (10f) Acapulco and 110 rated Acapulco has filled the bridesmaid position in his three starts over hurdles to date but the Edward O’Grady trained 6yo can finally make the breakthrough and land the 2m 7f maiden hurdle at 2-15 at Navan today under Andrew McNamara. Though he has looked less than convincing on a couple of occasions on the flat and there may be doubts about his ability to succeed as he has only gone down by the minimum margins at Cork (2m 3f) and Leopardstown (2m 4f) to two fair sorts in Seven Days and Western Leader he did have to give 5lbs to the last named and the step up in trip here could suit the Galilleo gelding. His main danger should come from Eoghan O’Gradys point and bumper winner The Book Thief who is another who will be ideally suited by this step up in distance having looked well outpaced when failing to justify odds on favouritism over 2m at Cork at the start of the month.
2-20 HUNTINGDON – 3m novice hc hurdle
Victor Dartnall can supply the answer here with the progressive SIR WINSTON who can land his second victory of the season under Daryl Jacob. Noble Future and Absolute Shambles van follow the selection home.
3-15 NAVAN – 2m 4f hc chase
With plenty of question marks against the leaders in the market here it should prove profitable to side with 2 bigger priced runners against the field and the marginal call goes to WHAT’S IN FRONT who boasts placed form at the venue and he can beat the unexposed Eye See You Now.

We are now recording the daily profit and loss of Ireland's Eye to help readers gauge the current form of the service. We will provide the profit / loss on the previous day to a £1 level stake on each selection (eg: a 5 point bet = a £5 stake). In the interests of consistency the profit / loss will be recorded at SP prices, however BETDAQ users can reasonably expect to beat SP in the majority of races.
Wednesday's Return was: LOSS 14.68 points
