There are two bankers today in a bid for six maximum-stakes bets in a row, and there’s a horse from Ireland going for a touch at Wolverhampton tonight, but first a few outsiders over the sticks.
Layers have probably forgotten that Gavroche Gauguin (1.20 Doncaster) has been well fancied the last twice but are giving him away at 12.0 on Betdaq this morning.
Robinson Collonges (1.30 Newbury) is reportedly a classy sort and has schooled exceptionally well, but Tail Of The Bank can be forgiven his fall last time – would have finished no worse than second – and is reckoned an exciting horse in the making: 15.5 offers, as I write.
Spit (1.45 Chepstow) appeals at 12.5, with the quirky Nicholls’ runner, Play On Words, favourite but easy to back this morning.
You’re So Vain (4.15 Doncaster) you probably think this bet is about you; but the forecast 16-1 shot was already well supported, in to 9.8 on the Daq at the time of writing. Considered the best in a yard with a big future.
1.05 Lingfield: Badly in need of his debut run, Beyond has improved the proverbial ton and works so well on the Al Bahathri that he is expected to take this in impressive style. Cucumber Run, a Champion Bumper contender, is my other banker today, in the last at Newbury.
2.50 Lingfield (Betdaq The Betting Exchange Claimer): Like Avow, himself, his yard is missing strike badly, with 12 placed from the last 18 runners but only two winners; Avow has had three seconds from the last four starts.
The blinkers might help Out The Ring but Gay ‘Kelloggs’ doesn’t use them with much discrimination, showing only 6% hits when applying the blinds.
Wanchai Whisper holds Anna Galeria on one and Blue Neptune on no fewer than three recent runs, shows a rare consistency at this level – up to class 5, in fact – and there should be no stopping her again unless she’s suddenly gone off the boil.
3.25 Lingfield (betdaqextra.com. Handicap): There are half a dozen front-runners here and beneficiaries of a fast pace should be the old boys, hold-up horses Namir and After The Show.
But deleting trainers on the cold list found us winners yesterday and both Herbie Evans (Namir, 71 days) and Rae Guest (After The Show, 108 days) are among four trainers in the race who, in all, have totted up 404 days without a winner.
On the other hand, Namir ought to be spot on for this after being beaten only about a length from a very strong pace over CD a fortnight ago.
Apart from the two old boys, Ten Down is the only other in the race to have won as high as class 4 and is now 15lb lower than his last winning mark, if you take William Carson’s claim into account: 9.6 on Betdaq, as I write; could bounce back with a good ride.
4.30 Lingfield (Bet Australian Open Tennis - Betdaq Handicap): Clive Brittain is back; he of the soft-shoe, parade-ring shuffle. But Yawary will need a bit more than Mr Nice Guy’s optimism, on all known form.
Mattie Salaman’s the punter’s pal, producing a thick wallet from his handicap debutants this term, and with Sweet Avon stepped up a furlong. Novillero looks dangerous down at the foot of the handicap.
5.10 Wolverhampton: Alf Tupper had a blow-out for this, slowly away, in the race won by Sir George on Monday, has stayed over all week, and breezed well on Wednesday morning.
Now spot on and in great form, he is strongly expected to collect in this weak claimer which has him high in the official ratings and going for his third CD success: 10.5 on the Daq this morning might turn out to be giving money away.
6.10 Wolverhampton (Bet Super League - Betdaq Handicap): We went for a touch on Fen Spirit when she tried to make all here over CD but was run out of it by the improved Divine Force. I see no Divine Force in this field, though Bajan Tryst is a worry as a winner when fresh and another who likes to set the pace.
But Fen Spirit gets a useful 9lb to help her boost the bids at the sales next Thursday: I took 3.55 on Betdaq, with mouse expectancy of an odds-on lay in running, and a bit of insurance on Bajan Tryst.
6.40 Wolverhampton (Bet Premier League Football - Betdaq Handicap): There’s a ‘Rooney’ in a race named after Premier League betting but, with seven course winners, and seven with winning form in its last two starts, there are no tap-ins or open goals here.
On recent form over CD, there’s nothing between Radiator Rooney and Know No Fear, whom the handicapper has also closed down with Don Pele; he in turn should now finish dead level with Welcome Approach (fifth in this last year) unless Jake Payne can utilize some or all of his allowance. Yes, it’s a tight one, as 5-1 the field suggests.
Adam Kirby’s sole ride of the day is to steer last-time winner Bishopbriggs across from the 12 stall; he should know what he’s doing, since he usually rides Only A Game, whom he manoeuvred to win, racing wide, at Lingfield last month.
I can’t have Interchoice Star as a plater giving weight all round, so I had my pound on Royal Envoy, a CD winner who has crashed a stone and more in the handicap in the last 10 weeks: 18.0 on the Daq, as I write.
7.10 Wolverhampton (Bet Multiples - Betdaq Handicap): The selection box for this in the Racing Post has five of the seven runners tipped: open or what!
Yet Dreamwalk, new to AW and with only a place at Kempton last time, and suddenly upped in trip, is clear in the Betdaq market this morning. Shumone knows shumthing, right?
Certainly his form looks on a higher level to Sheshall, but Right Option is an out-and-out stayer who goes well fresh, Calculating remains in form and Jeer’s yard has been on a high though this one also steps up markedly in trip.
