IRELAND'S EYE
Hereford and Southwell are the jump cards for National Hunt enthusiasts today and Ruby Walsh and Paul Nicholls should prove profitable with punters at the former venue. However we will be seeking better value on the DAQ with a couple of better priced selections on that card while the Nicky Henderson team could be worth following in a Southwell bumper with a debutant.
Yet another winning nap yesterday when Den Of Iniquity (6/4-11/10) landed the novice chase at Folkestone with our saver The Jazz Musician (11/-9/4) running well in third but I’moncloudnine (9/4-2/1) found one too good for him in a handicap chase at Fakenham.
The 1-40 at Hereford this afternoon – a 2m 6 1/2f novice hurdle looks an interesting betting heat and with the Nicholls/Walsh combination supplying the favourite and ex pointer Opening Meet the Jennie Candish trained useful bumper winner Barafundle represents decent value at the forecast odds. A son of Flemensfirth this fellow shaped as a staying type when finishing placed behind a couple of decent sorts in Uttoxeter bumpers on varying grounds before springing a 14/1 surprise when taking a Chepstow bumper from a subsequent dual winner with the subsequent Cheltenham hc hurdle winner back in third almost eight months ago. In the hope that the Alan O’Keeffe trained 5yo strips fit for his seasonal and hurdle debut he should be capable of beating the Nicholls runner Opening Meet who followed up his third placing in an English point with victory in a modest Taunton soft ground bumper. However the 5yo is open to improvement and does have Ruby Walsh on board to boot.
With the Henderson team ‘on fire’ at the moment it probably is folly to oppose their representative Owen Glendower in the concluding bumper (2m) at Southwell at 3-20 with the champ Tony McCoy in the plate. Although the Anshan 4yo is making his debut here the stables runners rarely require a run and he should prove too strong for the two penalised runners – the best of whom could be the ex Conor O’Dwyer trained Woodmore who landed a Wexford bumper on his third start earlier this year. Now with the Gollings yard he should be capable of taking some of the placed money but the biggest danger to the winner may come from a once raced 6yo in Club Class as the Keith Reveley gelding stayed on to take third spot in a similar Market Rasen contest over a fortnight ago when quietly fancied ‘at the books’.
There are several ex pointers facing the starter in the concluding 2m 1f bumper at Hereford at 3-40 and it is the Warren Greatrex trained Irish pointer Smooth Classic who gets the vote to score on his second start for the in form yard. This fellow ran well in defeat in second behind the subsequently useful hurdler/chaser Tataniano over 2m 4f at Belharbour before running well in taking third in a decent Plumpton 2m 2f bumper on Park debut some eight months ago. The Wayne Hutchinson ridden son of Luso can put his experience to good use here where the once raced Johnjo O’Neill trained Very Stylish could pose the main danger as the Winged Love gelding shaped with promise on only career start to date when beaten less than ten lengths by Bensalem in an Ascot bumper which has been throwing up winners. The former Tom Mullins trained and experienced Gus McCrae in addition to Horse & Jockey point winner For Non Stop are others to consider in an interesting contest.
1-50 SOUTHWELL – 2m maiden hurdle
Ben De Haans Flemensfirth 5yo MY SHAMWARI shaped with promise when staying on to take second money in a bumper on the this track earlier in the year and he has the invaluable assistance of Noel Fehily here and he can go one better for a stable that have been quiet of late.
2-10 HEREFORD – 2m novice chase
Paul Nicholls Recif De Thaix strikes as an individual who could do with a step up in class and though the French bred 4yo races over the optimum trip here and only showed reasonable form on his chase debut some three weeks ago the Nicholls trained and Ruby Walsh ridden gelding gets a decent opportunity to open his chase account here.

We are now recording the daily profit and loss of Ireland's Eye to help readers gauge the current form of the service. We will provide the profit / loss on the previous day to a £1 level stake on each selection (eg: a 5 point bet = a £5 stake). In the interests of consistency the profit / loss will be recorded at SP prices, however BETDAQ users can reasonably expect to beat SP in the majority of races.
