IRELAND'S EYE
Exeter arguably provides the most interesting racing today with a few potentially useful performers in the line up in the novice chases while Lingfield and Sedgefield also house decent jump cards. At a time when former Irish pointers tend to make winning impacts under Rules we will be siding with a couple at Sedgefield and Exeter while there looks to be good value in a BETDAQ MULTIBET today with three fair priced runners.
Yesterday proved a little frustrating with a couple of our sections going under to a couple of our shorter priced savers at Limeick. Rigour Back Bob (1/1-5/6) and Pesoto (5/4) proved our sole winners at the expense of first choices Milanette (6s morn-11/2) and Swift Counsel (9/2-7/2) while others to pick up placed money were Companero (9-7/1) and Lodge Lane (11/2-7/2) behind the impressive scorer Money Trix.
Sedgefields 2m 4f novice chase today at 1-50 looks a less than competitive affair and the clear vote goes to the ex Irish pointer Playing The Field on his second start under Rules. Though the four year old failed to score in two efforts ‘between the flags’ the son of Deploy did finish runner up to two fair sorts in Tara Royal (disappointed in bumper last week) and Chosen Man (shaped with promise on debut for Henrietta Knight) in decent maidens at Maralin and Loughbrickland on soft and worse ground. Though his debut run in a Carlisle bumper reads as just ordinary he may not have been suited by the fast ground there and on easier ground and obstacles in front of him he can deliver at the first time of asking in this sphere for the Malcolm Jefferson yard where the 6yo mare Patchoulie Conti on her chase debut could prove the main threat.
Henry Daly’s course winner Sir Peter gets the vote to take the 2m 7 1/2f hc hurdle at Exeter at 2-10 today on his first start for some nine months today. The lightly raced 7yo has scored his two career starts over hurdles from seven starts and though he failed to ‘cut the mustard’ over fences last season he s now just 4lbs higher than when recording his second hurdle win over a furlong less in a slowly run handicap on this track over a year and a half ago. With his stable getting amongst the winners lately he can land this handicap under Mark Bradbourne with easing ground to suit at the expense of Andy Turnells High Carol who went up 8lbs for his snug win over 2m 4f at Worcester three weeks ago while the consistent Clyffe Hanger is another to consider from the Buckler yard with 5lb claimer Harry Skelton on board.
The 2-30 contest at Lingfield today is far from a top class handicap chase over 2m 4 1/2f and as always it is best to side with winning form in these events. Keeping that as our benchmark the solution may lie in supporting the Madgwick 10yo Count The Cost ho was always prominent when scoring a hard earned win in an average Fontwell hc chase over 3m 3f on good to firm. The hurdle and chase scorer went up 4lbs for that success and now has the bonus of 5lbs claimer Marc Goldstein to offset that rise and the drop in trip may be the only drawback. The Michael Keightley trained ex point winner Ponchatrain could prove the main danger here on his first start for nearly 200 days but with his stable striking form and Warren Marston on board the 9yo should be suited by the ground/trip on just his fourth start over the bigger obstacles.
Formerly with Liam Burke the 5yo The Minack put up an ‘eye catching’ performance when finishing third on his point debut before gaining winning brackets less than a fortnight later at Bartlemy when justifying favouritism in an average maiden. Though the manner of that victory was not overly impressive it is noteworthy that the winner of the other division of that maiden run in a similar time – Tell Massini has subsequently bolted in for the Tom George stable at Chepstow on hid English debut. The Paul Nicholls 5yo should just have the advantage here over the ex Tom Keating trained pointer Best Oscar – good winner from a subsequent scorer at Loughbrickland before finding the drop to 2m 1f and faster ground his undoing when failing to justify favouritism in a Stratford maiden hurdle over two weeks ago. However the Ruby Walsh ridden King’s Theatre gelding may just prove the better bet in the concluding 2m 5 1/2f novice hurdle at 4-10 at Exeter from the Andy Turnell trained Best Oscar.
1-20 SEDGEFIELD 2m 4f selling hurdle
Though Tony Martins yard can hardly be described as ‘being on fire’ his sole raider HONOUR THE WORLD should appreciate the drop in class here under Richie McGrath in what looks an easy opportunity with ground/trip in his favour.
3-10 EXETER 2m 1 1/2f novice chase
An interesting novice chase where several hold chances and though Copper Bleu will be popular as he hold the best form over hurdles and he in common with Ballinderry Park and Captain Americo boast winning form ‘between the flags’ in Ireland but a tentative vote goes to the O’Neill chase debutant STRADBROOK.

We are now recording the daily profit and loss of Ireland's Eye to help readers gauge the current form of the service. We will provide the profit / loss on the previous day to a £1 level stake on each selection (eg: a 5 point bet = a £5 stake). In the interests of consistency the profit / loss will be recorded at SP prices, however BETDAQ users can reasonably expect to beat SP in the majority of races.
