IRELAND'S EYE
It's competitive fare at both tonights meets at Roscommon and Uttoxeter and we will stick with the handicaps where one of Lesley Youngs three representatives can land a hurdle at the Western venue while a long priced consistent mare can take the finale at Uttoxeter.
Marfach (13/8) one of our savers beat our main fancy Ejteyaaz (9/4-6/4) in the Roscommon opener last evening whilst two other choices Tarkari (3-2/1) and Another Trump (10/3) finished in the money on a generally disappointing day.
It looks like it will be ‘fast and furious’ up front in the 2m conditional jockeys handicap chase at 7-20 at Uttoxeter with former point winner Red Ray and last time out winner Milton Des Biffes looking to get the box seat. Despite this both look to have decent prospects with the latter suited by this trip and ground, despite having to shoulder top weight. Milton Des Biffes could be suited by some more ease in the ground having scored on soft at Worcester last time but another with claims is the Hogarth runner Northern Quest. The hurdle and chase winner has returned from an absence this season and the 8yo has indicated that a return to winning ways after three reasonable runs at Hexham and the Michael O’Connell ridden gelding can gain his first win for some 15 months here at decent odds with Milton Des Biffes looking the main threat.
Tipperary trainer Lesley Young is treble handed in the 2m handicap hurdle at Roscommon tonight with former point winning mare Jack’s Diamond in addition to Youbetterbegood and the unexposed mare Hopeful Venture. The latter is just given the vote with Ruby Walsh on board and the 5yo has been running fairly well in hurdles to date and was staying on well late to take a close fifth on admittedly good ground at Tramore on penultimate start. She could be suited by an ease in the ground here and she can land the spoils from another relatively unexposed mare in the Joanna Morgan trained Captains Girl who did finish a modest third on testing ground in a Galway maiden hurdle last year and the 4yo could be competitive off a mark of 82. Three time point winner Media Queen looks set to go off favourite and must have claims but the trip is unlikely to play to her strengths.
Christy Roche and 7lb claimer Liam McNiff could be on the mark in the 3m hc hurdle at Roscommon tonight with recent Tipperary winner What’s New. The six year old was only making his second appearance following a ‘break’ and started at generous odds to land the 2m 4f hc on yielding ground and he should be suited by the 4f step up in trip and in addition his eight pound rise for that success is almost nullified by the claim of his rider. Johnny Two Keys (brother to Florida Pearl) left us down badly last time at Kilbeggan where he jumped moderately at best when taking third over this trip and possibly was unsuited by the track and he would have claims on his Tipperary win on penultimate start over another of tonights opponents Waittillitellyou (winner since) at this distance. However one who appeals at a bigger price towards the bottom of the handicap is the Patrick O’Brady trained Flamenco Prince despite the fact that he remains a maiden after 22 starts in the National Hunt sphere.
The extended 2m 4f mares handicap hurdle at 9-20 brings the curtain down on the card and in a competitive event the way to profit could be to take three against the field at decent odds. The Mackie runner All Three Fables was let down by her jumping over course and distance over a week ago when finishing second to an Irish raider and the 5yo remains unexposed and runs off the same mark as last time. However she will need to brush up in the jumping department and the Neil Mulholland trained maiden Rhinestone Ruby off 2lbs lighter may prove a better proposition under Robert Thornton as the lightly raced 7yo Kayf Tara mare boasts two placings from as many starts at the track and indeed went close over course/distance about a month ago but now has to contend with a 7lb rise in the weights. The answer could be in supporting the consistent Mickey Hammond trained Tootsie Too who boasts a couple of wins over hurdles and is running consistently well off a reasonable mark and has ground to suit in addition to the 5lb claim of the competent Michael Murphy.

We are now recording the daily profit and loss of Ireland's Eye to help readers gauge the current form of the service. We will provide the profit / loss on the previous day to a £1 level stake on each selection (eg: a 5 point bet = a £5 stake). In the interests of consistency the profit / loss will be recorded at SP prices, however BETDAQ users can reasonably expect to beat SP in the majority of races.
