IRELAND'S EYE
Though the big races are ‘done and dusted’ that will not stop the Willie Mullins camp in taking the top prize money today with a top weighted mare while the Weld camp could suffere a reverse in a maiden at short odds.
Two Naps in a row with Dual Gales (3-11/4) landing a novice hurdle yesterday to continue our decent run but it was seconditis in the main otherwise with Corrick Bridge (5/2-9/4), Separate Ways (5/2), Beauthea (8/1), Deutchland (11/4 morn-15/8) and No One Tells Me (2-6/4) filling the runner up positions.
Additionally Maucaillou (9/2-4/1) and Ballyvoile (6-11/2) also picked up placed money while our selection in the bumper Tonto Kacy (20/1) just finished out of the money in fourth.
GUINNESS (QR) HANDICAP HURDLE 2m 2f
The amateur riders get their chance in the opening contest this evening and in what is traditionally a tough betting race we will take four against the field in order to register a profit. The ones most likely to land this handicap are Media Queen, Root Cause, Sharadi and King Ali. Three time point winner Media Queen has made has made a fine return to the track and her narrow success at Roscommon over an inadequate two miles was boosted by success for the runner up Hopeful Venture subsequently while the 8yo looked set to deliver in any case when left clear at the last over 2m 4f in a similar handicap at Ballinrobe 10 days ago. The fact that she is has gone up 9lbs for that lastest success is less of a handicap than demanding ground and in champion point to point rider Derek O’Connor she is reunited with her regular partner ‘between the flags’. Root Cause should not be jusged on his last couple of runs on good and better ground as the Tom Mullins trained 6yo’s best form has been with plenty of give in the ground and the Tramore 2m maiden hurdle winner (from In The Haven) was achieved on yielding to soft and he has run well in defeat in decent handicaps in the interim and has the assistance of Patrick Mullins. Sharadi remains unexposed over flights having scored twice from 9 starts and was value for the 8lbs he got for an easy win in a Killarney 2m 6f Killarney handicap hurdle last time on yielding to soft and Robbie McNamara takes off a valuable 3lbs. King Ali at first glance does not look a likely contender but the locally trained Pat Kelly trained 7yo is returning to hurdles fr only the third time since finishing a respectable 9th to Truckers Delight on yielding ground in the corresponding contest last year and boast winning form on the course over 3 miles but is arguably best on better ground.
GUINNESS EBF 2yo AUCTION MAIDEN 7f
David Marnane is treble handed here with They’llknowmenow, the once raced Mk seven and Paydaar and it is the last named who is tipped to come out on top. The Colm O’Donohue trained seemed to appreciate the ease in the ground when finishing runner up to Red Fighter in a Killarney maiden nearly three weeks ago where he had another of todays rivals Cheval Rouge just a half length behind in third. This son of Sulamani can confirm the form with that filly on 2lbs better terms ans recoup the losses incurred on that occasion when he was a well supported favourite.
GUINNESS HANDICAP CHASE 2m 1f
Sanglote has been called several names (mostly unmentionable) by punters in the past but the Eoin Doyle trained 6yo is undoubtedly an above average sort when putting his best foot forward and he may be worth a punt on just his fourth start over fences this evening. The bumper and hurdle winner has run well enough when finishing a close 2nd and 3rd on better ground and over longer trips on a couple of chase starts recently but has scored on soft and was placed in a bumper her on just his second career start over the course in 2007 and with the dual course and distance veteran Kahuna sure to go off fast here this could play into Paul Townends hands on the bottom weight and he gets a tentative vote to beat that rival and Jessica Harringtons top weight Knight Legend who is another possibility for the role of pace maker. Last years winner Torrid Kentavr would be suited by better ground while another veteran and course winner over 2m 6 Reisk Superman would also appreciate a sounder surface.
ARTHUR’S DAY PREMIER HANDICAP 1m 4f
Feature event of the evening and the vote goes to the top weight Sesenta under Johnny Murtagh. Though Willie Mullins 5yo mare can hardly be described as being ahead of the handicapper she is undoubtedly the class act in the race and though she went up 4lbs for finishing an excellent runner up to Judgethemoment in the Ascot Stakes over 2 miles on unfavourably fast ground at Royal Ascot she will appreciate this surface which saw her land a highly competitive 2m 4f hc hurdle at the Punchestown Festival (soft) and a Curragh Premier hc (heavy) over this trip on her penultimate start. Though she is now 11lbs higher that on her last flat win she can add this contest to her haul and give Mullins consolation for missing out on the yesterdays big prize whilst Tom Hogan’s progressive mare Taralga, who also won at the Curragh on testing ground over this trip could make a bold bid from the front under Davy Moran while the consistent Drunken Sailor boasts a placing on the track and Paul Flynns 4yo has been showing definite signs that the trip could suit with decent placings in the Ulster Derby (behind Changingoftheguard) and more recently over the distance at the Curragh.
GALWAY PUBLICAN’S EBF MAIDEN 1m 4f
The Dermot Weld bandwagon will be fancied to continue here where the twice raced Sublime Talent will start at short odds to step up on his two promising efforts behind two decent Aidan O’Brien runners in Drumbeat and aYankee Doodle at the end of last year. There was plenty of merit in his staying on fifth on heavy ground over 7f at Gowran on his debut whilst he was not disgraced when soundly beaten by the subsequent Queen’s Vase runner up Yankee Doodle over 11 ½ at Wexford. However at the forecast prices it could more profitable to side with the admittedly more exposed Chebona Bula. This Eoin Doyle trained gelding has ben running well over a variety of trips and he followed up his second placing to Johann Zoffany in a Leopardstown 10f handicap on good ground with a couple of sound efforts on easier ground at Naas and the Curragh on most recent runs and with Emmet McNamara taking off 5lbs he just gets the nod to topple the short priced ‘jolly’.
ARTHUR GUINNESS HANDICAP 1m 100yds
This looks the toughest race on todays card and a narrow vote goes to the Harry Rogers trained Polly Ella to give her trainer his second win of the week. A daughter of Night Shift she looks failrly handicapped on the form she showed when finishing runner up to Wednesdays failed gamble Napa Starr at Bellewstown over a mile on good ground on penultimate start and she looks well handicapped on her subsequent staying on fifth over a similar trip on the all weather at Dundalk behind second placed Cool Athlete (7lbs better off for just over a length and a half) subsequently. With Shane foley taking off 5lbs and a good draw she rated a punt at the odds to beat the last named who is another who looks to be on the upgrade and the David Marnane trained gelding could be suited by the soft ground. Jessica Harringtons Beat The Boss under Keagan Latham is another to enter the equation on his third placing in a similar Killarney contest last time on yielding ground.
GUINNESS RACE 1m 6f
If yesterday Galway Hurdle turns out the Pat Flynn trained 6yo will be hard to beat here if none the worse for his exertions. Though yesterdays win was somewhat of a surprise as he had not shown most of his form on better ground (did score on heavy) but he is clearly in form and has the assistance of the talented 5lb claimer Garry Carroll to boot and he just gets the nod to beat the useful Dermot Weld runner Universal Truth in receipt of 9lbs.

We will provide the profit / loss on the previous day to a £1 level stake on each selection (eg: a 5 point bet = a £5 stake).
