Wednesday 15 July DAQMAN  80 WINS IN A MONTH: With five more over the last two days, Daqman has chalked up 80 wins in the last month and 15 winning days from the last 21. 215 POINTS PROFIT: His profit in those 21 days stands at 215 points, or £2,150 from £10 units at recommended stakes, following Mahiki (won 3-1) and Uncle Brit (won 9-4) yesterday. 13 LAYS IN A ROW: His last successful lays sequence of 13 on the trot has just ended, and he plans to get back in the groove at Worcester tonight.   The punter’s worst enemy is himself: I know well enough that I should only believe what I see, and not accept the whispers and the hype, such as surrounded French colt Beheshtam before he bit the dust yesterday. Therein lies their excuse: that he didn’t show his action on the ground, a surface more akin to dust than to depth; but, even though it might come up very soft in October, I can’t see this plodder landing the Arc pot. It’s an excuse too far for the French Derby fourth, who was then thought to need further than the 10 furlongs that day. He does. Two-and-a-half miles. Over hurdles. Sorry, that last bit was my pocket talking; I just had a modicum each way for the Arc, but every loser hurts, though we know we have to have them. Today I must put my money where my mouth is again: twice in this column I have sung the praises of Sir Michael Stoute for his judicious use of blinkers. And here he is today with Almuktahem (2.20 Lingfield) visored for the first time. My man in the long grass says this half brother to Maraahel has been working well with the aids. Of the ‘enemy’ today, Shakalaka ran OK at Windsor but, like Emiratesdotcom (by Pivotal), you’d expect him to do better with some cut. Sir Mark Prescott is the man to follow now, his yard back winning again – we had Uncle Brit last year -  after a virus: Good Humoured (4.50) has been working well enough with Royal Diamond and Casual Garcia (3.20) and on Friday morning got the better of 86-rated Prescription, the pair having Florentia (8.50 Kempton) a couple of lengths adrift. Off only 62 in his first handicap, Good Humoured looks an each-way banker; I can get near enough 3-1 the win and the Betdaq place odds provide 70% insurance of my win stake. One of my favourite bets is a solid each-way (I mean with sound reasoning behind it) at a fair trade in an eight-runner race: Whippers Love (6.50 Kempton) is Mark Johnston’s only runner tonight at a track where he has the best juvenile record of any trainer in the race, with the colt stepped up to 7f, down low in the weights for a nursery. Whippers Love’s fourth at Ayr is interesting, since the third went on to score at Carlisle and the easy winner finished fifth in the July Stakes to the impressive Arcano. I could get 6.6 Whippers Love each way on the Daq this morning. Hayley Turner, quickly back in the headlines, is on a filly, Miss Eze (8.20), capable on class and style of running of bossing this small field. Miss Eze worked smartly with none other than Sariska in the Spring but lost her way and has had a break: she’s back, catching the eye in Saturday’s gallop with Steel Free, the pair going away from Summers Lease, and she looks well handicapped here. I can’t for the life of me see why Dirar (9.10) is paper favourite for the 20-furlong handicap hurdle at Worcester; just because it’s a Gordon Elliott raider, I suppose. Dirar has shown nothing on both heavy and good to firm, including a trip across from Ireland in May, yet is 13-8 in the Racing Post; there are half a dozen previous winners in the race, including McCoy on Sam Whiskey for a stable which has won the last three runnings and Richard Johnson on one for Alison Thorpe (two wins), who has taken turns with Jonjo O’Neill at winning the pot. I think Dirar will drift like a dog on a raft and is a lay and bet.
