DAQMAN on THURSDAY

Newdaqman_150Thursday 8 January

Daqman got out in the last at Wolverhampton yesterday with Cape Express (won 11-8) - which he also doubled with River Kirov -  but, overall, it was his first losing day this week and his race-by-race strike rate is now 50%.

Daqman finds a lone southern raider has booked a top jockey for the likely return of jumps racing on Saturday.

Meanwhile, on AW today, his place special at Great Leighs is 3.7 but he can’t resist a small punt at the Betdaq win odds of 15.0.

And he spots a change of favourite as the money comes for a stable in form at Southwell.

Forever-hungry Tony McCoy will be at the rescheduled Ayr meeting on Saturday, riding for gambling legend J. P. McManus.

Ayr may be the first jumps meeting back after the big freeze and Northern trainers have responded with a full quota of runners. But Southern stables have snubbed it: they will be staying at home with one or two exceptions, notably Brendan Powell.

His three raiders from Lambourn, one of them recent Leicester winner, Princess Flame, include two for McManus: American World and Money Order, both to be ridden by McCoy.

A.P. is going for a four-timer on Money Order: the Supreme Leader seven-year-old has raced only three times in two years but has won every one of them.

Is this, then, a ‘glass’ horse that doesn’t stand training? ‘Just little niggles,’ insists the trainer; ‘he’s working well and we want to get him back on the racecourse.’

The man who rode Rhyme N Reason to win the 1988 Grand National, Powell – 23 AW winners in five seasons – is mixing jumps with Flat at his new yard in Lambourn and has a runner at Great Leighs on Sunday.

Raider going the reverse way is Lanark trainer Ian Semple, who has tried his horses on four of the southern AW tracks since Christmas: Great Leighs today completes the nap hand.

Old Chookie Heiton (3.55) has it all to do and Ian is much more hopeful about the former Willie Haggas winner, Silvanus (1.55); Dane O’Neill booked. The Danehill Dancer gelding should get a handy ‘pozzy’ from stall one.

Kings Head (2.25) could burst the La Estrella bubble as a class-2 winner dropping down to a claimer.

He’s the only runner of the day for leading Great Leighs trainer Gary Moore, and he performed well enough on the surface – behind Grande Caiman – to be able to boss a class-6 claiming stakes winner.

Mr Lambros (3.25) has kept hot company over 7f at Kempton, including a Listed and a race won by the one-time Classic-trial runner-up, Confuchias.

Today’s drop back to 6f should suit on a track more appropriate to his style of running. Mr Lambros, at 15.0 on Betdaq (3.7 a place) as I write, is my place special for today.

Soopacal is a big danger for the in-form Smart stable, is well in with Matsunosuke (holds Beat The Bell) and is my saver.

Wing Diva (1.20) should go well for the Smart connection at Southwell but there’s quite a punt on their other runner there, Transmission (2.50), which ousted United Nations as favourite while I was monitoring the Daq this morning. I’ll bet as if Smart gets one winner out of the two Southwell chances.

Caprio (3.20) is made for this track on style of running and on breeding; I took 5.8 with an even-money place bet which was insurance for my win stake.
