14/1 winner !!
Daqman fans tipped the bottle yesterday after 14-1 Bauhaus Bourbon! It was his sixth winning bet in three days for 32 points profit and he needs one more for 70 wins since the column began in October.
We all have a mate who rings us and says such-and-such a horse will win because the trainer has a 50% record in that particular race.
Such stats can be meaningless, or have added weight, whichever way you look at it, when one horse makes up all, or most of, the entire 50%!
That’s the case today with Miss Pross (3.20 Sedgefield), a winner three times on the track.
The Bob’s Return mare ran a pleasing reappearance, and the ‘Bob’ who is riding her, Robert Walford, has won on her twice.
Sands Rising is a dual winner at Sedgefield, including the same 2.50 race last year, but his regular partner, Kenny Johnson, dives down from top to bottom of the handicap to pilot Sound Of Cheers instead.
And no wonder.
Sound Of Cheers, who returned to form with Kenny up last time out, is 30lb lower than when the same rider won on him at Wetherby last year.
It was heavy ground that day and I don’t think they’ll find the right adjective for today after not one but two course inspections this morning found the bog covered last night by frost. Good luck, Kenny!
At Fontwell, the going is goodish, soft in places. So the money is down on Mous Of Men.
I tipped this one up, remember, before two withdrawals because of poor conditions. Word got out at those times and the paper forecast of 11-2 for the 3.10 today was never going to happen.
It’s a bonus to see A.P. McCoy up but that makes a deal on the Daq even harder to come by.
Henrietta Knight is really looking after ‘Mous’ and thinks he can go places, so maybe even offers of 2-1, current as I write, are value. I’ll trade.
From one extreme of going to another.. and then yet another! Be warned that Rolleston Junction (Southwell to the uninitiated) returns on a partly relaid, partly repaired surface.
Anything can happen, though jockeys reported at trials over the ‘new’ track that it rode much as before. In that case, my final course specialist of the day is Quiet Times (1.0), who has scored six times at Southwell.
If you mean lot won’t trade me odds against, I’ll use the Daq’s multiple bets facility and put him in doubles.
That way I’ll get better value. So there.
