We're down to the last eight of the Carling Cup and with a big final now looming you can be rest assured that everyone will be giving 100% in a quest to land the first trophy of the season.

Arsenal were back to their sensational best at Villa Park on Saturday and will really fancy earning a semi final berth at the expense of woeful Wigan.  The Gunners have been banging in the goals so far in this competition and more of the same is definitely on the cards at The Emirates.  Wigan just can't be relied upon to put a solid perfomance in and their hammering against West Ham at the weekend was a real kick n the teeth for their survival in the Premier League.  This is a game that is guaranteed to be played at a high tempo with plenty of action as Roberto Martinez knows his side have no chance if they simply sit back and let Arsenal strut their stuff. The Gunners look like good things to get the job done here but I can't play at 1.25 on the "Daq".  Instead I'll take the over 2.5 goal line at 1.53 which is a certainty to happen in my book.

Manchester United were majestic against Blackburn on Saturday but let's be honest, the visitors just didn't turn up.  West Ham meanwhile bashed the aforementioned Wigan and began the long journey to save their season.  This is a very tricky game to call because so much of it depends on the willingness of Avram Grant to have a real go at this piece of silverware.  Obviously the bigger picture for the Hammers is the preservation of their League status but they have a real chance here if the desire is there.  I think the key to the outcome will be whether the superb Scott Parker plays for the home side as regardless of who United field we know they will have quality.  I'm loath to get too heavily involved in the match odds market on Betdaq in this one and will instead stick with the same bargain as in the other quarter final.  I fancy goals so will take the overs at 1.77.

Manchester United’s season eventually burst into life in astonishing fashion against Blackburn as they smashed seven past a hapless Blackburn outfit. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side now sit two points clear as they head in to this evening’s Carling Cup clash with West Ham United.

Avram Grant will be pleased that United are likely to make wholesale changes for the game at Upton Park. However, United have won the tournament for the past two years and that has largely been off the back of their second string. Since Wayne Rooney’s return to fitness, Javier Hernandez’s opportunities have been limited and the Mexican will relish his chance against the Hammers.

United, currently trading at around 1.69, will also be able to call on the likes of Chris Smalling, Ben Amos and Kiko Macheda. Since losing to the Hammers three times in a row, United have now won the past six matches – the last five without conceding. 

West Ham will be as confident as they have been all season after picking up three points in the ‘Save our Season’ contest with Wigan. However, those backing Grant’s side at around 5.8 need not be reminded that the side have won only twice all season.

Even with United resting some of their key players, the Red Devils should have enough to remain on course for a third successive Carling Cup.

Despite the valiant efforts of the Folkestone executive yesterdays jumps card at Folkestone finally ‘bit the dust but there is plenty of action today provided by the all weather. BETDAQ are one of the major sponsors on the Lingfield card starting at 12-45 while there is a six race card at Southwell.

Cathy Gannon has been enjoying an excellent season and the Irish rider can land a mile maiden at Southwell for the Jenny Fielden stable while at Lingfield two geldings who have been seen over jumps on their most recent runs can fight out the finish of the opening 2m amateur riders handicap.

Olivino has failed to land a contest on the all weather from nine efforts but the four time flat (grass) scorer can make the breakthrough by scoring in the 2m amateur riders two mile handicap at Lingfield today at 12-45. Now a 9yo the Second Set gelding has however been placed in Wolverhampton and Kempton contests with a second placing over this trip at the latter venue the pick of these and he has run reasonably well here over a variety of distances in the past. However he has been in good form over hurdles recently and the 115 rated timber topper comes here on the back of a gutsy win in a Stratford 2m 1f hc hurdle 10 weeks ago under his regular pilot and todays partner the capable Isabel Tompsett. Off a mark of 41 he can land the spoils here at the expense of another runner who has proved successful over flights – the five time hurdle winner Pocket Too who does nevertheless has the advantage of being a four time winner on the all weather – and once over CD almost 4 years ago.
 
The BETDAQ – BET ASHES CRICKET handicap at Lingfield today offers the Chris Wall trained Path Of Glory a decent opportunity to register his third career victory and his second on the AW in the 2-40 contest today. The three year old who landed a mile handicap at Bath some seven months ago made a winning impact on todays surface by narrowly landing a Wolverhampton 9f handicap almost three months ago and todays trip of a mile and two should pose no problems for the Trade Fair gelding who can overcome a 3lb rise in the weights here under George Baker who has been on board for both of his successes. Michael Jarvis’s filly Dark Promise looks the main danger in this 3yo handicap though Michael Jarvis’s charge who has gone off favourite on all her four starts to date is making her all weather debut here. Nevertheless the Pontefract maiden winner (over todays distance) has been running fairly well in a couple of handicaps and she probably did not get home last time over a mile and a half at Newmarket on good to soft.
 
Catht Gannon has been totting up the winners this year and she could provide the answer to an open looking mile maiden at Southwell today at 2-30 with the relatively unexposed Entrance. Although the daughter of Iceman has failed to get into the frame in four starts to date on mainly an all weather surface she has been running with some promise and though this trip could just be at the optimum level for the Jenny Fielden runner she is just preferred to Lexington Bay who did finish runner up here in a similar contest on penultimate start earlier this month before finishing a fair fourth over nine furlongs at Wolverhampton five days ago.

Robert Haslams GERONIMO CHIEF has improved with each run to date and the P J McDonald ridden gelding can add to his course win (over a mile) three weeks ago off a 5lb higher mark here. Another last time out winner Face The Future who scored by the minimum margin here a fortnight ago could present the main threat under Phillip Makin.

Barcelona got yesterday's treble (repeated below) off to a flying start with a five-star performance against Real Madrid.

There's no way we were expecting 5-0 but it does mean the first leg is landed and tonight I'm happy to just let the bet run and hope MAN U and ARSENAL can both oblige to land the treble and give our monthly return a nice boost on the final day of November.

Multiple Betting - BETDAQ HELP PAGE

BETDAQ was the first exchange to introduce MULTIPLE bets to exchange betting. You can view all markets that are multiple ‘enabled’ through a separate multiples portal. Click on the Multiples tab to access these markets.

A Multiple Bet is defined as individual bets which combine two or more selections in a single bet. The overall payout for a win (including the original stake) is equal to the stake multiplied by the product of the various odds.

To make the first choice in your Multiple simply go to the market and make a selection as if you were placing a single bet. There will only be 1 price box available for each selection. This selection will be added to the Multiples tab on the right side of your screen. It may be helpful to imagine this area as your shopping basket.

To add further selections to your Multiple, focus your mouse back on the main screen and select another bet of your choice, note you must leave the market you were in and enter any other market that is offering Multiple Bets. Only one  selection per event can be added to a Multiple bet. For example your first selection could be on a horse race and your second on a soccer match. As you add selections to your Multiple you will see your shopping list grow. BETDAQ can support up to 7 selections in any Multiple Bet.

In order to get a quote of available prices for your Multiple click on the "Get Bet Types" button on the right of your screen. This will allow you to choose from all the possible Muliples that can be made from your chosen selections.  For example if you have made three selections you will be offered the choice of 3 doubles and 1 treble. A full description of all the bets available can be found below.

Once you have chosen your Bet Type, you can enter your stake on the Bet Slip click "Place Bet". This will prompt a Bet Verification screen, verify all the details of your Multiple Bet are correct and click "Confirm Bet". This will open a Bet Receipt that you can keep for your personal records.

Multiple Bet Types Offered:

You can combine up to 7 selections in different events to make a Double, Treble, 4-fold,  5-Fold right up to a 7-fold. In making a selection, you are choosing to back that selection, please note it is not possible to lay a selection as part of a multiple bet. All selections must win for the multiple bet to be settled as a winner.

Commission payable is calculated at 5% of winnings per multiple bet for all customers.

You can combine up to 7 selections in different events to make a Double, Treble, 4-fold,  5-Fold right up to a 7-fold. In the event of one or more of your selections not taking part your bet will be regarded as having one less leg i.e. a treble becomes a double etc.

Let’s hear it for Lingfield! It’s business as usual today, business more than usual on Thursday (an extra meeting); then Friday; then Sunday. Somehow the show goes on, to the great credit of all, from sponsor to stalls handler. We miss the stars but they are the new stars, weather beaten but not defeated.

1.45 Lingfield (betdaq.co.uk Nursery) Small field or not, there have been no winners of this bigger than 7-2 SP, even though the last two had never previously reached the first three.

No chance of a gamble on an unknown this time around, with three of the four contenders having won on AW in this autumn-winter season. The odd one out is Piceno but he’s on a hat-trick if he can follow up summer turf wins with this switch to a man-made surface.

Piceno was one of those first-time-in-a-handicap winners when he went down to Salisbury from Yorkshire in August; then franked another system when, as a placed-within-seven-days runner, he followed up under Kieren Fallon at Newmarket.

What sets Piceno and Bilko Pak apart from the other two is that both have won at today’s level; Islesman is leaping two grades and seems ‘the one least likely to.’ But these are two-year-olds, with the potential to improve, trying to slip past the handicapper in the final month of assessment before they have to race as three-year-olds.

Bilko Pak (ex-Hannon) and Piceno (ex-Cumani) have both changed stables and always at the back of my mind are questions like: why the cast-off? Why should the new trainer punish the horse he knows so little about? So I’ll have my pound on Tullius.

2.15 Lingfield (Betdaq The Betting Exchange Handicap) Kavachi’s 9st 7lb burden here off 80 seems a bit unfair, since it’s the same rating as his turf figure, earned from seven wins, three seconds and five thirds. His AW returns? Two runs, twice out of the frame.

They were a long time ago now so, perhaps, you would be equally cautious if you were the handicapper; on the other hand, Kavachi has won only once in the last 18 months. That’s probably where his problem lies, since that winning run was class-2 and he won’t easily be forgiven for it.

This class-4 has five last-time-out winners in it, four of them CD winners, but only seven-times-course-winner Halsion Chancer and Final Drive have ever before been able to put together back-to-back success - Final Drive is penalized for doing it just two days ago – and only Young Dottie has scored in this grade.

Snag with ‘Dottie’ is that her stable is missing strike: plenty of recent places but only one winner, whereas Jo Crowley’s currently scoring with 50% of runners.

However, Jo will need Wilfred Pickles to improve for this switch to AW; he’s been placed in eight out of 15 turf starts without winning, and 17.0 on Betdaq this morning suggests not a lot of confidence behind him.

My fancy is Elspeth’s Boy, back to form on this course last time out. The stable won the race last year and looks to have lined this one up, though mention of his 100-1 run in the Guineas is to lay claim for class that simply isn’t there.

2.40 Lingfield (Bet Ashes Cricket - Betdaq Handicap) Sweet Child O’Mine has won two levels higher than this, albeit on heavy-ground turf, even attempting a Listed on today’s course last time.

She was last of eight but, to be fair, apart from being lofted to Listed level, she was up two furlongs beyond her winning distance of 17 days earlier.

Flag Of Glory and Commerce have won only in lower class but at least they have scored on AW, whereas it’s all new to Dark Promise. The half-sister to Love Divine switched to Polytrack after failing twice as favourite in handicaps on turf, her price reflecting a maiden second at Newbury before getting off the mark in the North.

However, the Newbury race didn’t work out, apart from a leap forward afterwards by John Gosden’s Piano, who transferred to AW with two convincing wins, and the Pontefract first six also produced a couple of AW winners.

Michael Jarvis is the only trainer in today’s field to have had a winner in the last two weeks, so expect Dark Promise to be a short price to make the same transition from turf to Polytrack today.

Spain’s, if not the world’s, two best sides go head to head for one of the most hotly anticipated El Clasico’s for years. Real Madrid, available at around 3.6 to win, lead Barcelona by one point after 12 matches after an uncharacteristically slow start to the campaign from tonight’s hosts. If the match wasn’t big enough already, the clash now includes the often outspoken Jose Mourinho as new manager of Los Blancos.

As La Liga is regularly dominated by these two giant clubs, the matches against one another hold even more significance. Barcelona, trading at 2.2 on the ‘Daq’, have won the last four 'El Clasicos' and picked up a 1-0 victory in the corresponding fixture last year - although it was a game that was marred by six yellow cards and two reds.

Given the one point lead, Mourinho would happily settle for a draw at the Camp Nou and will be looking to catch Barca on the break with his dangerous counter-attacking side.

The performance that Pep Guardiola’s men produced last season against their biggest rivals, coupled with their current run of results makes them a good bet to win their fifth straight game versus Real.

Barcelona have an outstanding goal tally this season with the likes of David Villa, Xavi, and Andres Iniesta in their side and much will rest on the shoulders of the brilliant Messi. The Cristiano Ronaldo versus Lionel Messi battle also adds another intriguing dimension; between them they have 28 league goals since August.

DAQMAN CHECKS OUT FOUR BETDAQ RACES: Daqman finds a 14.5 offer that’s tempting in among the runners for four Betdaq-sponsored races at the Wolverhampton AW meeting today.

HE NAPS AT FOLKESTONE: But he considers a novice hurdle at Folkestone could produce a winner worth taking out of the race to follow in the future, and he tries a sporting nap on the one with the big home reputation.

IMPERIAL COMMANDER ON THE MEND: Imperial Commander’s King George decision today has been deferred until later in the week, with all going well with his minor injury but time running out. The news saw double-figure offers on Betdaq quickly snapped up this morning.

You’d do well to watch the novices’ hurdle at Folkestone today. I like a race seemingly packed with stable intention - the winner will presumably have had a decent race - and you can’t do better than this one.

Richard Rowe, who’s won two of the three runnings, relies on Current Climate; the Greatrex yard, which won it last year and has a fabulous 75% course record in hurdles, saddles Oddjob; ‘Kingy’ brings out his talked-about Invictus; the Emma Lavelle yard (currently with a 50% win-and-place strike rate) fields Kind Of Easy and, always on the premises, Paul Nicholls adds a further touch of grey with Water Garden.

Even then, I may have missed out the winner, since Sherwani Wolf goes well fresh, and should do better over this longer trip, having his first run for the stable of the season so far, Nigel Twiston-Davies’s ‘gold’ emporium.

The news of Imperial Commander is that a decision has been deferred until later this week; he’s getting on OK but the trainer needs to assess whether he can get enough work into him between then and Boxing Day.

Meanwhile, in that Folkestone novices’ hurdle, I’ll go along with Alan King’s obvious excitement about Invictus (1.25), regarded as ‘one of the more high profile newcomers’, which suggests that we might struggle in the future to get the odds against available on Betdaq this morning as he sets up a sequence.

3.20 Wolverhampton (Bet Europa League Football – Betdaq Handicap) Though 10 now, and with 152 races on the clock, front-runner Cape Royal was still capable of winning at one of the world’s fastest tracks, Epsom, this last turf season.

As ever, he got away smartly on today’s course 11 days ago and was only just run out of it but that second was his best placing in 23 AW starts and his Wolver form is 00003002.

Joining him in the lead as the race progresses could be Wooden King, who gets further so will enjoy mixing it in a strong gallop but he’s twice been beaten at the business end – including here -  by Towy Boy, who’s in an adjacent stall today and can sit on his quarters.

Turf loser 22 times, Monte Major is 19lb better on a man-made surface, where he has a 53% win-and-place strike rate (10 wins) from 66 appearances. He’s won eight times at Wolver and is well drawn, though has never won a handicap off so high a mark.

Dual Wolver winner Straboe is also rated higher than he’s ever won off but, back to AW for the first time since March, he’s entitled to improve, as he’s only four.

Straboe’s Newmarket yard is currently on a hat-trick after Friday-Saturday form of 211, one of them here, so 10.0 looked generous, even before the market had tightened up and was still in biggish overround.

4.20 Wolverhampton (Bet Multiples – Betdaq Nursery Division 1) Richard Fahey is farming Wolverhampton right now, with current form figures there of 1011031, including 9-1, 8-1 and 6-1 winners.

Apart from the penalized Microlight, there’s no way you can pick on form in this nursery – what form? – so you could do worse than take some 14.5 offers about the Fahey filly Shirocco Vice, his only runner of the day, off bottomweight first time in a handicap.

4.50 Wolverhampton (Bet Multiples – Betdaq Nursery Division 2) Joyously is the one in the second division who knows how to score but that’s why she’s saddled with top weight and her stable hasn’t had a Flat winner for 228 days.

I’d want to lay the paper favourite Sky Diamond, if she shortens any further, as a plater tried in headgear last time without winning. In fact, your analysis is bound to be laced with negatives again, as you are dealing mainly with exposed horses, with ‘hope’ the basic form ingredient.

The one that hasn’t broken the owner’s heart yet after only three runs is first-time-in-a-handicap Desert Location (6.6 on the Daq, as I write): well bred and showed she’s gradually getting the hang of things under Hayley Turner at Brighton and Lingfield. 

5.50 Wolverhampton (Try Betdaq For An Exchange Handicap): Jack Mitchell’s only ride of the day, Love In The Park, was narrowly beaten over CD 10 days ago but it’s hard to trust your money to the stable right now, after 264 days without a winner. Fingers crossed for them, but wallet closed, as the meanies smugly imply so often in the Dragons’ Den.

Lack of recent form from the yard – 248 days’ blank this time - is also the worry for front-runner Dunnen Dream, twice successful over CD, and reunited with David Probert (winner and second from two starts together in March, albeit a grade lower).

As with Sky Diamond in the previous race, you worry that All Moving Parts failed to win, though a fair second, tried in a visor and you wonder whether these blinds will have the same effect again.

For want of anything better, I’ll try a topical tip, Tres Froide, down from Yorkshire with Wolver form figures which make a case for a place at least – 32034023 – and on two occasions the mare was beaten only a quarter of a length and then a length.

It is great to see Folkestone beat the elements today after a quiet day yesterday while BETDAQ are once again the major sponsor on the all weather Wolverhampton card this afternoon. However we will focus on the jumps action and there looks to be decent prospects for success for three former Irish point winners on the Folkestone card with two looking good value on the DAQ in a handicap hurdle and chase for the Phillips and Venetia Williams yards.
 
We failed to register yesterday where Kempton was the ‘only game in town’ with our nap Resentful Angel (6/1) and saver Iron Condor (8/1) finishing second and third (not in that order) in a handicap. Earlier Palais Glide (2-6/4) could only finish third in a maiden.

The Greatrex yard landed the 2m novice chase at Folkestone (12-55) last year with favourite Den Of Iniquity and they look to have prospects of making it a double today with the 118 rated hurdler Quartano. Admittedly the 7yo was inferior to four of todays opponents over flights but the seven year old boasts a good record at this track and he chased home the useful Fix The Rib in a CD event here almost two years ago on his chase debut. Twice a winner in novice hurdles in the interim over longer trips his seasonal return may not have been that eye catching in a decent Ascot novice on just his second chase start but a return to this track could see the German bred record a surprise. American Trilogy and Pascha Bere will have their supporters but the main threat may come from Phillip Hobbs dual hurdle winning 4yo who has already shown promise in two starts over the major obstacles already this season and he might have collected at Ludlow eighteen days ago over todays trip but for jumping left throughout but this right handed circuit could see the Red Ransom build on that narrow defeat under ‘Dickie’ Johnson.
 
Backing 4yo track debutants at short odds against mainly older and more experienced rivals is not for the faint hearted but though Invictus looks likely to fit that bill today the Alan King trained Flemensfirth is hard to oppose in the 2m 4 1/2f novice hurdle at Folkestone today at 1-25. Formerly in the care of Andy Slattery the youngster put up a fine performance at Horse & Jockey on point debut in March when making all and jumping soundly to hold off another decent prospect (won subsequently) on good to firm ground. An expensive purchase he can make back a fraction of that price tag today under Wayne Hutchinson where the Greatrex trained 6yo Oddjob could pose the main danger on the back of a fair debut effort over flights at Ffos Las three weeks ago where he failed to settle before fading to third in a novice hurdle over the minimum trip.
 
There are signs that Venetia Williams yard are coming to hand and they can sample success today at Folkestone with the former Irish pointer Ballyoliver. Colin McKeevers 6yo stepped up on a promising fourth placing at Lemonfield before winning in clear cut and emphatic style at Castletown Geoghegan last year but the Kayf Tara gelding has hardly made the front pages for his current yard to date in a couple of bumpers and four hurdles but he did show some improvement on his second start this campaign on latest and the Aidan Coleman ridden gelding could prove a different proposition over fences here on admittedly his debut in a 3m 1f hc at 3-10. In an ordinary event the main challenge could come from recent Towcester handicap chase winner Pacco who seemed to appreciate the application of first time blinkers eight days ago over todays trip and now races off a 7lb higher mark.

MR TINGLE looked a fair prospect when landing a point (third start) for Tom Keating as a 4yo in Ireland but it has to be admitted that the Beat All gelding has been disappointing during a fairly light career for Richard Phillips. Though he did not show much on his recent seasonal debut on handicap debut at Warwick Warren Marstons mount could improve for that outing and in a modest event the 6yo gets a tentative vote to beat top weight Island Jim.

Multiple Betting - BETDAQ HELP PAGE

BETDAQ was the first exchange to introduce MULTIPLE bets to exchange betting. You can view all markets that are multiple ‘enabled’ through a separate multiples portal. Click on the Multiples tab to access these markets.

A Multiple Bet is defined as individual bets which combine two or more selections in a single bet. The overall payout for a win (including the original stake) is equal to the stake multiplied by the product of the various odds.

To make the first choice in your Multiple simply go to the market and make a selection as if you were placing a single bet. There will only be 1 price box available for each selection. This selection will be added to the Multiples tab on the right side of your screen. It may be helpful to imagine this area as your shopping basket.

To add further selections to your Multiple, focus your mouse back on the main screen and select another bet of your choice, note you must leave the market you were in and enter any other market that is offering Multiple Bets. Only one  selection per event can be added to a Multiple bet. For example your first selection could be on a horse race and your second on a soccer match. As you add selections to your Multiple you will see your shopping list grow. BETDAQ can support up to 7 selections in any Multiple Bet.

In order to get a quote of available prices for your Multiple click on the "Get Bet Types" button on the right of your screen. This will allow you to choose from all the possible Muliples that can be made from your chosen selections.  For example if you have made three selections you will be offered the choice of 3 doubles and 1 treble. A full description of all the bets available can be found below.

Once you have chosen your Bet Type, you can enter your stake on the Bet Slip click "Place Bet". This will prompt a Bet Verification screen, verify all the details of your Multiple Bet are correct and click "Confirm Bet". This will open a Bet Receipt that you can keep for your personal records.

Multiple Bet Types Offered:

You can combine up to 7 selections in different events to make a Double, Treble, 4-fold,  5-Fold right up to a 7-fold. In making a selection, you are choosing to back that selection, please note it is not possible to lay a selection as part of a multiple bet. All selections must win for the multiple bet to be settled as a winner.

Commission payable is calculated at 5% of winnings per multiple bet for all customers.

You can combine up to 7 selections in different events to make a Double, Treble, 4-fold,  5-Fold right up to a 7-fold. In the event of one or more of your selections not taking part your bet will be regarded as having one less leg i.e. a treble becomes a double etc.

PREVIEW
Spurs will be looking to round off a brilliant week with a victory against Liverpool that will keep them on the heels of the teams at the top of the table.
 
After a sensational fightback at the Emirates, Spurs then disposed of Werder Bremen in convincing style but there are question marks over the ability of Harry Redknapp's team to remain consistent after playing in the Champions League.
 
Liverpool appear to have put the worst behind them after a dismal start to the campaign and have been beaten just once in their last eight games.  That though was a shocking effort at Stoke and the Reds away form remains a massive concern.  The fact that Liverpool have only won twice on their travels in 2010 means they can hardly be backed with confidence at a venue like White Hart Lane.
 
Both of these sides have fantastic offensive players in their ranks and even though Liverpool have tended to be a little negative under Roy Hodgson the tempo of todays game could see plenty of goals.
 
The temptation is to go with Spurs on Betdaq but Liverpool still have enough quality in the ranks to make life difficult for the home side especially with Fernando Torres now approaching his best.  The better play is to back over 2.5 goals in what has the potential to be a wildly entertaining affair.
